When designing power electronic devices, engineers are faced with quite a few challenges. One of those challenges is to find the right balance between limited space and temperature design. Simulation modeling solves the challenge of putting various electrical components in tight spaces while keeping the system below critical temperatures.

Microgrid Design and Simulation with Simulink

For a long time, the roadblock to making renewable energy practical and dependable has been how to store electricity for days when the wind isn’t blowing, and the sun isn’t shining. New storage approaches include storing energy surplus within microgrids.

During this session, you will learn several modeling techniques that you can use for microgrid designs and simulations. These techniques will be explained through two examples:

Vibroacoustic Measurements, System Identification and Visualization in MATLAB – Torsional Modal Analysis

This session introduces an extension to the existing experimental modal analysis (EMA) methods. The extension analyzes the torsional mode shapes of a shaft system that includes a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). We will discuss the proposed method’s most critical steps, from synthesizing the excitation signal, throughout curve fitting, to visualization of torsional mode shapes.

Reduced Order Modeling based on Neural Networks

During this session, you will learn how to use Machine Learning for Run-Time Optimization and build an LSTM-ROM model (a type of ROM that leverages an LSTM network). A ROM is a surrogate for a physical model that allows you to reduce the computation required without compromising the accuracy of the original physical model. You can also use the ROM instead of the actual physical system for workflows that require heavy computations, for example, design exploration.

Koppany is an application engineer at Gamax Laboratory Solutions. He is responsible for supporting the education industry and providing teachers and researchers with solutions that turn engineering education into an interactive experience for both students and teachers.

Koppany graduated as an engineering physicist from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME); later, he received his Ph.D. in the field of material sciences, focusing on the application of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques. He spent over 5 years in the semiconductor industry, working together with customers from various fields, including academic and industrial research.

Arpad received his Ph.D. from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), focusing on applying and researching new material models for polymeric flows.

In recent years, Arpad has worked as an application engineer at Gamax Laboratory Solutions, focusing on enabling our partners to accelerate their innovation cycle in technical computing, model-based design, and multiphysics, including technical support of license configuration and product use, as well as the support of R&D projects in multiple sectors, including automotive, transport, oil & gas, and technical services. Daniel received his MSc in Electrical Engineering from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), focusing on control system design and autonomous robots and vehicles.
